Jane Houlihan

I’m an environmental engineer, consultant, and executive leader working to create healthy places, thriving families, green businesses – and smart policies that protect our health and the planet we share. My 20+ years in this field includes:

  • Leading non-profit organizations – 12 years in non-profit leadership, on the management team of a $7-million-a-year, 40-person organization.
  • Directing the nation’s largest non-profit environmental health research program, managing an annual budget of up to $2.6 million and a stellar staff of scientists, programmers, and web designers.
  • Conceiving of and directing a change-making online health guide that logged over 250 million searches in 8 years, fueling a national campaign and an ongoing green revolution in the personal care product industry. (EWG’s Skin Deep database).
  • Helping build an email list of over 1 million people in 5 years, leading the team that produced a sustained stream of original web content that engaged people and kept them coming back.

As a communications expert with technical chops, I’ve appeared in over 100 print stories and TV broadcasts a year, including the New York Times, 20/20, Washington Post, USA Today, PBS (MacNeil/Lehrer) NewsHour, CNN and many more. I’ve delivered presentations to expert and lay audiences ranging up to 2,500 people, including testimony at Congressional hearings and presentations for science panels and national conferences.

I’m a firm believer in the idea that life is only as exciting as the problems we choose to tackle and solve. I love big ideas and getting projects done.

I offer consulting services to progressive groups. You can learn more about my work in My Portfolio.
